In Washington D.C. Can Hawaii Make a Difference?

Those we elect to represent us, our Senators and Congressional Representatives, are constantly aware of what you, as citizens of Hawaii, think. The headquarters of Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS) has a knowledgeable staff that constantly consults and works with our representatives. Yearly, CGS evaluates the records of our representatives on important global issues.

In its annual Congressional Report Card of 2006, CGS gave grades from A through F to all members of the U.S. Senate and House. The issues on which it judged were: Climate Change; Genocide in Darfur; Global Health & Development, International Criminal Court, Nuclear Proliferation, Torture, UN Democracy Caucus, and The UN/UNESCO/Peacekeeping Funding.

Hawaii can be proud of the records of our representatives. The current report card published their grades as: Senator Akaka, A+; Senator Inouye, A+; Representative Abercrombie, A+; Representative Case, A. You will also be pleased to know that a former native of Hawaii, Senator Obama of Illinois, has a CGS A+ grade!

Why Citizens for Global Solutions?

Citizens for Global Solutions (CGS) is a nationwide organization that inspires Americans to engage the world. Our members recognize that in today's interconnected world, our lives, our jobs and our families are increasingly affected by global problems. Challenges like terrorism, climate change, failed states and infectious diseases can not be addressed by any one country on its own, not even the United States. Citizens for Global Solutions believes that countries can solve global problems by working together to find global solutions.

The CGS encourages Americans to recognize how they are connected to the rest of the world, communicate their concerns to public officials and promote solutions to a range of global problems. We promote closer U.S. cooperation with, and support for, international institutions capable of responding to the threats and challenges of a new century. We work to build political will in the U.S. to be sure that our leaders work with our friends and allies to make the world a better and safer place for everyone. We recognize lawmakers who champion these goals in our Congressional Report Card and via support from Global Solutions PAC.

Citizens for Global Solutions Fills a Need

1) Peaceful tourism throughout the world provides a sound economy at home and abroad.

2) The building of world democracies, honoring human rights, makes world travel more attractive.

3) Cooperation among democracies worldwide challenges those that would use terrorism to jeopardize democratic governments.

4) Working together through a strong UN Security Council takes the responsibility of policing insecure areas less of burden on a few nations.

5) Restructuring and improving the United Nations is a concern of most U.S. political parties and of most American citizens that consider themselves conservative, liberal or moderate.

6) In Washington, DC, and across the nation, Citizens for Global Solutions is constantly working toward these goals.
